Artist Statement
My name is Jackson Farnsworth
I create photographs shaped by two coastlines that raised me: the vineyards and bay breezes of Mattituck on Long Island’s North Fork, and the quiet marshlands of Skidaway Island. My work lives in the tension between those worlds—New York nostalgia and Lowcountry stillness—each informing how I see light, space, and memory.
Growing up in Mattituck taught me to notice the understated: the way late-summer sun draped over the Sound, how a calm shoreline could feel like an entire story, how simplicity becomes sacred when you slow down long enough to pay attention. That sensibility followed me south, where Skidaway’s soft, warm light offered something familiar yet new. The marsh doesn’t rush. It breathes. And in that rhythm, I found a different kind of clarity.
My imagery is guided by restraint—quiet frames, natural tones, compositions that feel honest and unforced. I’m drawn to scenes that speak softly: the glow off a golf cart roof at dusk, the stillness of a marsh creek at sunrise, the subtle coastal textures that most people overlook. These are the moments that anchor my work. They remind me how both places—North Fork and Skidaway—carry their own version of home.
I photograph to preserve that feeling. Not spectacle, not performance—just the quiet luxury of noticing the world as it is. My work is an ongoing dialogue between past and present, between the place that shaped me and the place that now sustains me. Every image is a continuation of that journey.
